I often hear people say ‘I want to get back into my body’.
In my work I am often supporting people to deal with this gap.
Since I became a somatic bodywork therapist, using The Pantarei Approach, I’ve helped many people to ‘get back into their body’.
What kind of experiences are people having? Some feel that only talking about things doesn’t help them process what’s going on.
Others find that physical experiences don’t address them as a whole human, or not as a person with feelings.
Our culture can encourage us to separate our ‘head’ from our ‘body’ – we are asked to think about abstract and complicated ideas without time or support to process it through the rest of the body.
If you live in the UK, you may not be in a physical warzone but humans are susceptible to being impacted by violent images and ideas through the news or social media, which when accumulated enough, can cause stress responses that impact our health.
If a person is not aware of something, they are not even aware that they are not aware… But many people have a kind of knowing that there is something more than this. Some people say to me, they have noticed signs through their bodily sensations, or their thoughts or a feeling that something that isn’t quite right.
I think this is a really great starting point. The awareness itself already changes something – and I often support people who are at this place, to find more resources from their whole body connection with their mind and awareness. The experience can be profound, it can be energising, or grounding, often challenging – but the regular accompaniment from a trained practitioner to support you as you walk through the unknown is valuable and sometimes necessary to keep going with safety and progress.
